Ferrari Throttle Position Sensor / Potentiometer (Genuine P/N 142434 / 158170 · Bosch 0280 122 001)
This throttle position sensor (also known as a throttle potentiometer) is mounted on the throttle body or intake manifold and sends a signal to the ECU in response to accelerator pedal movement.
Because the sensor works by converting the mechanical movement of the throttle into an electrical signal, the internal contact points gradually wear down as the shaft rotates, causing a loss of sensitivity over time.
In most cases, failure does not happen suddenly. Instead, the sensor slowly loses its ability to detect throttle movement. This means symptoms can be subtle at first:
“The throttle feels a bit sluggish lately…”
“There’s a slight hesitation on acceleration…”
These are typical early signs of a failing throttle potentiometer. (Sudden complete failure can also occur.)
How the Throttle Position Sensor Works and Why It Fails

As you can see in the photo of the sensor’s rear side, there is a round opening.
The sensor mounts onto the throttle butterfly shaft and detects the angle of rotation.
As the shaft turns, it varies the electrical resistance and sends a real-time signal back to the ECU — essentially the same principle as a volume knob on an audio device (a variable resistor / potentiometer).
The component itself is quite simple, but because it rotates every time you press the accelerator, the contact points physically wear down over time — and that wear is the primary cause of failure.

※ Vehicles fitted with engine management system M2.5 require a different part number.
Please confirm that Bosch part number 0280 122 001 is fitted to your vehicle before ordering.

One sensor is used per engine bank, meaning two are required per vehicle. If one sensor is showing signs of wear, the other has likely covered the same mileage and age, and may develop the same symptoms shortly after. Replacing both at the same time can save you the labour cost and inconvenience of a second visit.
